In 1952, Ruth Everly is the most successful female detective in the state of Louisiana. In fact, she is the only female detective in the state of Louisiana. Her high society parents consider it a harmless hobby, something to fill her time until she finds a suitable man to marry. Unfortunately, Ruth is more focused on her current case than dating. And the case, a missing persons case in a small town, is shaping up to be far more interesting than she anticipated.
The town seems filled with suspects. The most compelling, a high society bachelor named Alexander Landry, is equally interesting to her detective mind and her female interest. But he is obviously far more than he seems. What exactly is he hiding? Can Ruth solve the case or is she finally in over her head?
His grip tightened on her hips and he surged to his feet.
With seemingly no effort, he lifted her and lightly tossed her into the center
of the bed. He was on her before she had time to settle. His long tongue curled
around the front of her throat to taste her skin as he shifted over her. Ruth
spread her legs in a silent plea.
